Who We Are
We are a group of progressive thinkers who question, discuss, and act to bring about needed change.
America 2000 is dedicated to national issues. Our members include local, state, and national politicians and some of the most saavy political activists. America 2000 is a place where Democrats of all stripes, liberal thinking Independents and Republicans can gain a perspective on national and regional issues.
We volunteer for campaigns, take social action when things need to be changed, and respect each others differing views. Our monthly discussions and speakers are always interesting.
A Little Political History
The 1992 Clinton campaign started out with Chris Tobe and Mike Ward and headquarters volunteers Joan Laurie, Becky Probus, Hazel Fulton all who had worked for Michael Dukakis in 1998. We had great grassroots support resuling in crowds of 200-300. At one early rally David Wofford (son of PA Senator Harris Wofford) came in to run the campaign and was surprised by the success of his first rally. Over 300 boisterous Democrats came and we hoisted him on top of a desk to speak to the crowd. These early crowds came grew and grew until our mailing list had over 2000 names. (the impetus for America 2000) After the inauguration in 1993 Joan Laurie and Chris Tobe discussed keeping the momentum going. We started with staged events that attracted TV coverage.
